What makes a Photographer an Artist?
As an artist, there’s much more to my photography work than just pressing a button on a fancy camera.
observe the light
First & foremost, before I snap a single shot, I observe the light — it’s source, direction, intensity, color, shape, etc. — paying special attention to how it falls on my subject.
creative control of camera settings
Then, I manually select my camera settings — aperture, shutter speed, ISO, white balance — based on how I want to use the qualities of light present to help set the overall mood of the photo.
story composition
I remove distractions & make sure the frame is only composed of essential elements complimentary to the story I wish to document.
posing & perspective
This is accomplished with gentle posing guidance, or even just a change of perspective.
intentional
I’m just as intentional with each of these decisions prior to pressing the shutter button as I am with each creative adjustment during post-processing.
I’m not the photographer for everyone
I know I’m not the photographer for everyone, but I am for those who love a good story, appreciate poetic imagery, and value art.
You are my people.
And I’m so grateful you’re here!
