Where it started and where it's all going in 2019

I wrote my very first blog post here in the spring of 2017. To summarize that post, there was a period of time after our home was broken into and my health began to unravel, that I quit taking pictures.

But when I finally picked my camera back up, I discovered how to use it in a new and profound way.

Photography has been a balm to my soul and the instrument for my song.

It has been therapeutic and medicinal to my spirit to have visual markers of my struggle and growth.

I continue with introspection, as I ask myself hard personal questions while I do the hard work + heart-work of mothering.

I've found strength in the journey with a camera in my hand.

With that, I focussed on offering Storytelling Motherhood Sessions and teaching mommas how to use their own cameras to document meaningful moments wrapped up in everyday routines through The Heartfelt Motherhood Project.

Right in the middle of 2018, I had the opportunity to travel with a childhood girlfriend to Colorado for five days as her personal photographer. I had never done anything like this before, so I was nervous + excited, to say the least. That time in the mountains proved pivotal in my heart and business.

Introducing Lifestyle Personal Branding Sessions

For a while now, I have prayed and asked God how I could support other women in business, especially moms working from home. It would not be feasible for me buy every product or service that my friends offer, but I still had this desire to help. God spoke to me again with a phrase that’s becoming familiar: what’s in your hand?

Still just a camera, Lord. How can I use that to help these women move their businesses forward?

Then it hit me. Duh! The same way I’ve learned to use it in mine and for my friend this past summer.

You see, for the past two years, I have been learning all I can about entrepreneurship from my business mentors Jasmine Star, Sarah Cornish, and Sarah Hill. They’ve helped shape the brand “Kat Calaway” into existence and push me to continue evolving as a professional photographer and creative entrepreneur!

I believe wholeheartedly in the spirit of community over competition!

And with that spirit, I know I can help other mommas show the heart behind their work. I’ve learned, when you share your personal story - why you started and why you keep going - with heartfelt images, you will build the business of your dreams by attracting the perfect clients!

Have no fear, Motherhood Sessions aren’t going anywhere. I’m just adding to these Branding Sessions to my services.

So here’s to 2019…

Documenting the ones and the work we love!

Friendship is the finest balm,
Kat
